Preface
In accordance with RSGB working practices, as published in the "Green Book", the Chairman of the Data Communications Committee is appointed by Council.

Job Role
Specifically, the Chairman will be responsible to Council for liaison between other Committees and relevant outside bodies. The Chairman is responsible for the appointment of Committee members who are members of the Society. Additionally, the Chairman may appoint Corresponding members who need not be members of the Society.

The Chairman is also responsible to Council for the preparation and presentation of an Annual Report of the Committee's activities to Council, along with the administration of the Committee's budget as allocated by the Management Committee.

Responsibilities
  • Deal with all matters concerning data communications.
  • Administer the Notice of Variation scheme on behalf of the Radiocommunication Agency.
  • Coordinate all requests for Mailbox and Node site clearances prior to submission to the Radiocommunication Agency.
  • Ensure that all Nodes and Mailboxes comply with agreed technical specifications.
  • Recommend general operating practices with regard to data communications matters via published and regularly updated guidelines.
  • Liaise with the Radiocommunications Agency with regard to amateur data communications matters.
  • Liaise with the Licensing Advisory and spectrum committees with regard to band planning and licensing matters.
  • Liaise with other bodies such as AMSAT UK and BARTG on data communications and RTTY matters.
  • Appoint a Committee with a maximum of 10 Full Members.
  • Appoint a Vice Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer from the Full Members of the Committee.
  • Convene meetings of the Committee and preside as Chairman at all meetings at which he/she is present.
